Several teachings in the bible maintain that man is mortal and the only one who is immortal is God, generally, human bodies die, but spirits are immortal. Paul admonished in the book of Timothy as follows “I give thee charge in the sight of God, who quickeneth all things, and before Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate witnessed a good confession; That thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ: which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of Lords; Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen.” Religiously, spirits cannot be seen but they see human beings and all creatures (1st Timothy 6:13-16).

It is clear and unequivocal from the above that God is the only one who is immortal. However, part of man is also immortal. The breath of life which God breathed into man makes him immortal in essence. In fact, God breathed unto man, immortal spirit. The final destination of this spirit in man is unto God and it can only be immortal if it is sinless or saved.
